At first glance it has a corny title and even could resemble a cheesy slasher flick we all know so well from the eighties. But if you actually stop to watch the movie it is something more, a great slasher that is particularly graphic in it's uncut form. I first heard of this film form the Diabolical Dominion. I the thing that pushed me over the edge to see it was make-up master Tom Savini did the gore effects. Well i refuesed to see it until i got the uncut vcd from Hong Kong. Well, it starts out with a bunch of kids playing a prank on the mean groundskeeper Cropsy. Well the prank goes horribly wrong and Cropsy starts on fire and is burned badly. Flash forward five years and you see Cropsy coming out of the hospital. None of the skin grafts worked so he is horribly disfigured Well, here is one of the major downfalls of the movie. Then the film goes into this oh-so-pointless scene where he kills a prostitute. I mean, from watching 5 more minutes of the film I knew the scene should have been cut from the final release. Well, anyway, the rest of the film is pretty above average for a slasher flick. Cropsy even uses big hedge clippers to kill his victims. After all the campers canoe down the river, they find one of their own is missing and their canoes are gone. So they build a raft to try to get back to camp. This is one point where you have to have the uncut version to appriciate the film. THe raft scene is pretty gory and it was mostly cut from the American release. So i would highly recomend paying the extra cash for the uncut version on vcd or vhs. But in a period of imitators, this slasher stands out among the rest with some good charactors and some truly suspensful momnents. And as an added bonus you get to see Jason Alexander, most famous for his role in Seifeld as George, get killed. Sheesh, doesn't get much better than that.
